Chard – Brother of Spinach

Chard is a leafy green vegetable often used in Mediterranean cooking. Miraculous vegetable, chard,  because of the similarity with spinach, often neglected in our kitchen. Chard is extremely effective for improving immunity and represents the perfect diuretic. It belongs to the low-calorie foods, as well as all leafy vegetables.  It is considered ideal food to maintain body weight. In this regard, it is best to prepare  with potato spices and lemon juice, which organism provided remarkable amounts of vitamins C, B, and carotene.

It is rich with magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium and manganese, also rich with carbohydrates, proteins, cellulose, vegetable oils. Cellulose fibers are important because they bind themselves to excess water and toxic substances, speeding up the passage of food through the intestines, eliminating the discomfort during digestion of food. Carbohydrates are very important for the brain and nerve system. Therefore, chard is recommended to relieve tension and strengthen concentration.

Chard contains high level of nitrates, which been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce the amount of oxygen needed during exercise and enhance athletic performance. It also improves blood count, promotes the formation of red blood cells, strengthens bones and protects the mucous membranes of the body. Chard is a type of food that saturate, because is stays long in the digestive organs. Therefore, it is enough to eat 150-200 grams of chard.
